Community Music Therapy
Our unique Virtual Choir initiatives create powerful video and music experiences for survivors by connecting them remotely through technology. Each Virtual Choir digitally combines individual recordings from singers and musicians into a unified performance.
Importantly, this format is accessible to everyone, regardless of musical experience, as the Virtual Choir supports each participant within a collective voice. This initiative allows survivors, advocates, and musicians nationwide to learn and perform a song together, fostering solidarity and amplifying the voices of survivors everywhere.
Performing The Wailin’ Jennys song, “One Voice,” at the United Nations Headquarters, Nov. 19, 2018, in New York alongside The New York Choral Society.
The One Voice Virtual Choir combined survivors and advocates from across the United States in a powerful performance of the Wailin’ Jennys’ song, “One Voice.” The choir combined live performances alongside digital ones. Multiple survivors and advocates were recorded separately after learning the song with the support of one of our board-certified music therapists. The recordings were then combined with live vocalists to create one unified voice.

Stand by You was created during the pandemic to unite survivors experiencing increased isolation, especially those impacted by intimate partner violence. This specific compilation brought together professional musicians, activists, music therapists, survivors, and advocates from across the United States.
Through ongoing funding, we can develop new versions of this innovative musical production, further impacting survivors who are advocating for change. The Virtual Choir is an ongoing endeavor, and we aspire to include evermore voices in solidarity and hope.
